Exam Access

As of December 2024, proctoring is no longer required for any exams. When you are ready for your exam and have sufficient time to complete it, go ahead and take your exam.

Access to exams is generally controlled within Canvas according to the following guidelines:

You are permitted to take a midterm (or other non-final) exam only after all assignments preceding the exam have been submitted and after all but the assignment prior to the midterm have been graded. For example, if there are three assignments preceding a midterm, all three must be submitted, and the first two must be graded.

Likewise, you are permitted to take a final exam only after all midterms (or other non-final exams) have been graded, after all assignments preceding the exam have been submitted, and after all but the assignment prior to the final have been graded.

Some courses may have stricter limitations on when exams may be taken. These restrictions will be listed in the course Introduction. Moreover, some exams may require the use of an Access Code. Your teacher will provide the code when required.

Exam Accommodations for Students with Disabilities #

If you are a student with a disability and need special accommodations to complete your exam, please refer to students with disabilities for information about the documentation we require. We'll use this documentation to determine what kinds of accommodations to make.

Any student who has an approved accommodation for taking exams should contact the IUHS Exams Coordinator at iuhsexam@iu.edu before beginning. Your e-mail must include your full name (as listed in Canvas), the name of your course, and the name of the exam. Do not take the exam until you have received a response.

Exam Review #

One of the best ways to grow and be involved in your own learning is to review your assignments and exams after they have been graded. From detailed comments to a simple mark of correction, that feedback is valuable.

You can review your exam responses after your final attempt on an exam at any time. Note that in most courses you have two attempts on the first exam. Therefore you cannot see your responses to the first exam until you have taken it a second time. All exams after a course's first exam can be reviewed immediately.

You should also review any feedback given by your teacher. If you have questions about your exam, or about how or why you lost points, please contact your teacher.
